Spring Cleaning

While we were moved out of the house during construction, we moved everything that wasn’t of significant value to the garage. This was a great strategy to save some money but it meant that the huge project of cleaning up the garage was delayed until after construction. Not only cleaning (and finishing up moving or donating what’s left in there), but we have never been able to figure out the electrical. Not sure what the previous owner did, but the only way to turn off the security lights is to flip the main breaker in the garage. Which is not the most ideal situation. Plus the garage previously had wood siding and the former owner piled dirt against the side so it rotted and left a perfect doorway for small woodland creatures to make their way inside. Gross. I’m just glad its detached from the house.

So the plan is to empty it out, take the paneling and insulation out, get rid of the dirt piled next to the outside, and then evaluate the electric. Then we can patch up any areas that need it and re insulate and paint the floor. We also need to replace the doorframe that has some pretty bad rot, which the contractor just put new siding over (nice work ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ™ˆ).

This door has definitely seen better days…
What a mess!

When it’s done though, we will hopefully have enough space to park in it, which is basically my greatest wish every subzero winter morning. Remote start doesn’t help with having to scrape the windshield ๐Ÿ˜ฅ. Plus we had the contractor run network cable to it and reconnect the gas line to the overhead heater so it will become a bonus space. We plan to start next week, so I’m excited to share our progress on this project. I’m sure it’ll be like all the other projects I think will be no big deal, but halfway through completely regret starting. Like grading and re-seeding the front yard ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜….
