Basement Hallway

I had originally planned on sharing the party we threw for my daughter’s 3rd birthday (a month ago now, haha) this week, but then I realized I have an even older update to share!

Remember back when I shared how I redid our basement stairwell? Well I shared that post almost right after I finished (I think within a week?!), and I finished our basement hallway in the same timeframe, but then never got around to sharing it. Whoops!

So without further delay, here’s a before and after shot of the hallway downstairs from the same view:

I know I’m constantly saying this, but I still cannot believe how powerful paint is in transforming a space! Even before I got the rugs (I got 2 of these gray runners, btw, and love them!) and hung photos, it’s was SO MUCH BETTER after painting (this is looking the opposite direction down the hall and was taken before I painted the trim, but still – the floors!):

I painted the walls the same color as my oldest’s bedroom for the light gray (Smoke Embers by Ben Moore), and the dark gray you can see on the back wall above is Whale Gray by Ben Moore (which is actually the same color as our master bedroom, the basement guest room, and the color I used to repaint the basement living room, which shares that back wall above). The floors were painted using these materials and method – same as the rest of the basement!

The hardest part was choosing what pictures from our Fall trip to Maine to frame, haha! I know a lot of people like hanging art in their home, but I’m partial to family pictures. Especially candid ones, or pictures with pretty scenery from a family vacation – never gets old looking back on them! โ˜บ๏ธ

I always get prints from Mpix using their metallic paper – I swear, it even makes iPhone photos look good. And this time, I took the lazy way out and used 3M velcro strips to hang the frames. No regrets! ๐Ÿ˜ I just leaned the frames against the wall until I liked the arrangement, used a measuring tape to make sure my spacing was even, and used a level to ensure I was sticking them on straight (both single frames, and that neighboring frames were hung at the same height)!

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy (as my 5 year old always says ๐Ÿ˜‚)! Now here’s a bunch more after pictures, starting from the bottom of the stairwell in the living room, and walking around the corner to the guest room!

Those picture frames are huge (they’re these 11 x 14 matted frames)!

And I used these 11 x 14 frames for the other prints (the frames are constantly going on sale, too)!

I love the view from our basement bathroom (someone take me back to Italy – PRONTO! ๐Ÿ˜„):

And of course I love the view looking back into the playroom (must be the pop of teal in the bathroom & pink in the playroom against the gray that I’m so drawn to…):

And finally, a collage showing progression from start to finish:

Oh just kidding – I have to share the picture that Winston photobombed! Haha.

That’s it this week! Small changes for a big impact! Anyone else making a small space work hard for them?

Pssst… I also love our upstairs hallway if you want to see how obsessed I really am with hanging all.of.the.things! ๐Ÿ˜†
